Provocative Stage Play Opens in Philly Tonight, Runs ‘Til Sunday
“Bringing Katori Hall’s Hoodoo Love to Life, Yancy Girl Productions, LLC and Ademide Theatre Ensemble, Deliver Strong, Emotional Performance.”

8.22.13 – Philadelphia – (Theater/Art): Sex, Profanity and raw god-given talent makes this local effort a must see for theater enthusiasts within driving distance of Philadelphia this weekend.
This homegrown all-star cast delivers a strong and emotional performance as they tell the provocative, soul-stirring story of Toulou, a young woman searching for healing in the power of her mighty voice.
Swoon by the chain-smoking, long-stroking, traveling blues man, Aces of Spades (Keith Wallace), Toulou (Candace Thomas) attempts to flee the harsh cotton fields of Mississippi to pursue her dreams of singing the blues on Memphis’ legendary Beale Street. But when Toulou’s born-again brother Jib (Lee Edward Colston II) comes to town to start a church, he brings with him a past filled with secrets that threatens to shatter the future she’s willing to do ANYTHING for. Persuaded by Candylady (Cathy Simpson), a feisty, wise-cracking Hoodoo woman who lives next door, the sweet sounding sultry songstress risks everything by giving into the allure of Hoodoo magic to cast an intoxicating love spell over Aces of Spades.
“I know most of these actors personally, however, watching the story come alive during last night’s industry preview captivated me and I unwillingly suspended my disbelief,” says Carlo Campbell, a local actor who’s performing this Sunday at Malcolm X Park, 51st & Pine Streets, in the final installment of the “Theater in the X,” a series co-organized by Campbell and sponsored by the Leeway Foundation.
Campbell called the show “raw, real and revolutionary.”
I must agree. In its inaugural production, Philly’s newest multi-media theater company proves that when launching an effort, the sky is not the limit it’s the stating point!
