The seventh annual Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby took place in May of 2013 in the Philadelphia neighborhoods of East Kensington, Fishtown, and Olde Richmond.  The KKSD is a design competition and parade featuring human powered parade floats moving through neighborhood streets.  Every year thousands of people attend to watch the parade and the fantastic mud pit finish where sculptures attempt to navigate a mud pit at the finish of the parade for fun and bragging rights.

The KKSD was created in 2007 as a Economic Development initiative of NKCDC.  The intent is to showcase the neighborhood’s collective talent as a place where things are made and creativity abounds.  More over it helps to combat Kensington’s sometimes negative public image by bringing people to the neighborhood and showing them all the positive things that are happening.
