7.27.14: Philadelphia – (Media): Despite Philadelphia being the 4th largest media market in the country, every day plenty of remarkable stories go untold, voices unheard and perspectives unpublicized.
Without the real and raw sounds of the city being amplified and acknowledged, Philadelphia’s story is incomplete and an inaccurate depiction of Philadelphia is painted and broadcasted… at home and abroad. Don’t get me wrong, Philadelphia is a great city, but it has real serious issues, like a failing school district and no meaningful infrastructure for its vulnerable veterans.
Those affected by these problems – and others issues, like climate change, homelessness and sex trafficking – are very vocal about their displeasure, but you wouldn’t know it by watching your local news, which only provides snapshots of broad-base current events and even less perspective on it. So in order to provide a deeper dive into the stories people care about and increase the flow of information at the planetary level, I founded Techbook Online in 2009 and began strategically positioning it as a high-impact media brand in late 2011.
Nearly five years after its founding, the brand is drumming up audiences across markets, producing content across channels and platforms, and delivering real value to the communities we serve by keeping them informed and engaged. Our web presence is truly something to marvel at – as we have intentionally created search engine optimized content for the small screen – but now we’re really growing, and our original stories of impact, issue, inspiration and innovation are now integrated into the Xfinity OnDemand video library for Philadelphia-area Comcast cable subscribers.
To watch Techbook Online’s content on your TV, go to your “Get local” folder and select PhillyinFocus. Currently you can watch my solo drum performance, “Grooving Global,” an interview with Ari Merretazon about the PHL veteran service scandal and a intense video of Terri Jones, a grandma geared up to fight for Philly schools, calling out Governor Corbett during a protest in front of the Comcast Center.
Being the largest and most active publisher on PhillyinFocus.com comes with a sense of pride, because it means as a company we’re executing our goal of connecting communities through content.
Providing relevant content everyday is a great public service, but serving the public isn’t enough for us, instead the public must first be assembled and given a voice. At Techbook Online we’re giving a voice to the voiceless, while simultaneously telling the story of active citizens who are changing the world together.
So as these active citizens move and groove, we will follow intently, and continue to bring you the real and raw sounds of the city.
Thanks for reading. Until next time, I’m Flood the Drummer® & I’m Drumming for JUSTICE!™
